As Michel Baez learned a year ago, Luis Patino’s stuff during his early hiccups in the California League wasn’t as much of a problem as the learning curve in general as he faced hitters far more mature than they were in the Midwest League.
“They don’t swing at (expletive),” the 19-year-old Patino said earlier this month.
Consider Patino a fast learner.
On the day he was named to All-Star Futures Games, the right-handed Patino tied a career-high with nine strikeouts over five strong innings. He walked three, allowed two runs on four hits and has now allowed two runs over fewer in 11 of his 13 appearances with the Storm.
