Sidelined for more than three months with a hamstring strain, Jemile Weeks began his rehab assignment on Monday with a busy day in the Arizona Rookie League.
The 29-year-old infielder went 1-for-2, drove, in a run, walked and swiped a base while playing second base in the Padres’ 4-3 win in 11 innings over the Rangers’ affiliate.
Weeks was hitting .140 (7-for-50) in the majors but had emerged as a difference-maker on defense at the time of his injury. He hit .340 with one homer, 14 RBIs and four steals in 28 games this spring after signing as a minor league free agent.
