SAN BERNARDINO —
Javy Guerra spent all spring in big league camp as a shortstop. The Padres asked him to move to the mound at the conclusion of spring training as most of his friends headed to minor league affiliates. On Tuesday night, the 23-year-old Panama native smiled wide in the visiting clubhouse at San Manuel Stadium.
His first inning as a professional pitcher was under his belt. There were some wrinkles to iron out, yes. There was also a lot to like.
“I think I executed my slider well,” Guerra said after high Single-A Lake Elsinore’s 9-3 loss to Inland Empire.
