MacKenzie Gore rather enjoyed his Texas League debut.
The 20-year-old left-hander fired 5 1/3 shutout innings in his first start with Double-A Amarillo, a 9-0 win over host Frisco on Saturday night.
Gore, ranked the No. 3 prospect in the game by both MLB.com and Baseball America, struck out four, walked one, hit one batter and scattered two hits. He threw 57 of his 93 pitches for strikes, lowering his ERA to 0.96 over 84 2/3 innings this season. His 114 strikeouts over that stretch leads the Padres’ farm system.
