Garrett Richards continued his progression on Tuesday with his longest rehab start yet. Jose Castillo’s continued with arguably his best yet.
Richards threw 2 1/3 innings in high Single-A Lake Elsinore’s 5-4 loss at San Jose, continuing his push to return from last year’s Tommy John procedure before the end of the season. The 31-year-old allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter.
He had pitched as many as two innings in the rookie-level Arizona League but had lasted just two-thirds of an inning in his most recent start before shifting to the California League.
