Two more Padres affiliates are joining the dozens of minor league teams participating in the 2020 Copa de la Diversion, or “Fun Cup,” as part of Minor League Baseball’s campaign to connect fan bases with teams’ local Hispanic/Latino communities.
In the Midwest League, low Single-A Fort Wayne will rebrand as the Manzanas Luchadores (Fighting Apples) for six home games – May 1-3 and June 26-28 – next season. The team’s special Manzanas Luchadores jerseys and hats will be revealed in March.
In Amarillo, the Double-A Sod Poodles will be known as the Pointy Boots for 10 games, a nod to the custom cowboy boots that rose in popularity in North Central Mexico and into Texas as part of the tribal-guarachero music movement.
