Ticket scanners have been used for nearly two decades now when spectators enter a sporting event.
Before that, a perforation along the ticket indicated to ticket takers where to tear it as fans entered a stadium, ballpark or arena.

J.W. August has a ticket from Game 2 of the 1984 World Series that remains intact. It is Section 5, Row 14, Seat 9 in the Upper Level at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.
There’s a simple enough reason the ticket isn’t torn.
August and his girlfriend, Lori, never made it to the stadium.
