Matt Kemp’s hips are still good, man. Strong hips.

The Padres’ second-year pitcher served up an opposite-field, 457-foot homer to the 35-year-old Kemp in the third inning Saturday, the latest blast at a venue that has been very kind to the former Dodgers star and one-time San Diegan. It was, in fact, just what the Rockies envisioned when they offered Kemp a place to continue a career that many had thought all but over a time or two in the years since the Padres punted him off their roster in 2015.
“I’ve seen him do it many years,” Rockies manager Bud Black said.
