PEORIA, Ariz. —
In signing a minor league deal with the Padres, Seth Frankoff went from playing halfway across the world to illustrating what a small world it is.
The right-handed pitcher, who spent the past two seasons playing in Korea, is about to be part of MacKenzie Gore’s extended family.
Gore’s sister, Meredith, is marrying Frankoff’s wife’s brother, Fielding Hammond, who was Gore’s pitching coach in high school.
“What are the odds?” said Gore, the Padres’ top prospect. “Family is excited. They get to wear one color.”
Gore, who will turn 21 on Feb.
