Right-hander Luis Patiño will be added to the active roster and be available to make his major league debut against the Dodgers.
Patiño has been working and pitching in intrasquad games at USD, the team’s alternate site. He has been pitching well, and the Padres’ bullpen has struggled.
Patiño is considered the Padres’ No.2 pitching prospect behind lefty MacKenzie Gore. He is ranked 27th overall by MLB.com.
The team expects his fastball, which has climbed into the high-90s fastball, will play well coming in later in games at the outset of his big-league career.
