It’s difficult to top seven shutout innings against the Brewers in a major league debut.
But in some ways, Logan Allen’s second major league start, which came against a far inferior opponent and involved him getting hit pretty good at points, was a different level of good.
“It’s not like I didn’t have my ‘A’ stuff,” Allen said after scrapping his way through six innings and getting the win in the Padres’ 8-3 victory over the Orioles on Tuesday. “I didn’t have my ‘B’ stuff. This was a ‘C’ stuff game for me. Being able to get through six innings like that and giving us a chance to win really was encouraging and helped my confidence.
