In search of the end of a four-game skid, Andy Green is employing a new cleanup hitter in Brett Wallace, who also happens to be making his first appearance of the season at third base and the 23rd of his career.
Clearly, the hope is that Wallace – who slugged a career-high .521 last year – adds some oomph to a middle of the order that’s been lacking precisely that. Through the first 11 games, Padres cleanup hitters are hitting .205/.217/.341 with 15 strikeouts, one walk and three RBIs in 46 plate appearances.
