The Padres traded for a new starting corner outfielder this offseason. They flipped a prospect once thought to be their second baseman of the future for left-handed outfield depth. They boosted the bridge to their all-star closer.
That they did not significantly upgrade their rotation, of course, is plenty of reason to be skeptical of their playoff potential in 2020.

While the latest over/under of 83 wins released by Caesars this week suggests the Friars are headed toward their best season in a decade, the bars set for the rest of the NL suggests a belief that the Padres will be left out in the cold come October.
