MILWAUKEE -- The Padres recognized Major League potential in pitcher Dinelson Lamet when they signed him as an international free agent in 2014.
The rookie right-hander showed it Saturday night at Miller Park, striking out a career-high 12 batters in the Padres' 7-5 extra-innings win over the Brewers. Lamet allowed three runs on four hits without a walk over six innings and recorded all 12 strikeouts in the first five innings, during which he threw 75 pitches.
"That's the guy we want to see," Padres manager Andy Green said. "That guy can be very successful in the big leagues.
