As soon as word came out that Justin Upton had been scratched from today's lineup against the Pirates after originally being included, Padres fans everywhere held their breath while typing out worst-case scenarios of what could have happened. The most popular theory was that he'd been traded, as it seems like an inevitability that he will be by month's end since he becomes a free agent after the season and the Padres are looking less and less like contenders every day. That, or he suffered an injury that would drive down his trade value.
