Josh Naylor hit the first 10 home runs of his professional career in the lower levels of the Marlins farm system. It was fitting, then, that the first of his big-league career arrived on Saturday so the power-starved organization that traded him away could watch the 21-year-old outfielder circle the bases in person.
The Padres’ nine-ranked prospect, Naylor celebrated his first Petco Park start with a 388-foot home run in his first at-bat, a fleeting spark in a game the Padres’ trailed 5-2 in the seventh inning.
Not that Naylor didn’t do his best to ignite his teammates with his second-inning, two-run homer.
