It’s been a memorable start to the season for San Diego Padres centerfielder Jackson Merrill. He has been penciled into the lineup as the cleanup hitter since Opening Day, he hit his first home run of the year against the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday night and that followed his bobblehead giveaway Monday night.

Merrill can now add a contract extension to his list of accomplishments in 2025. The Padres and Merrill reportedly agreed to a nine-year $135 million extension today.
