MILWAUKEE -- Left fielder Justin Upton wasn't in the starting lineup Tuesday when the Padres faced the Brewers in the second game of their four-game series at Miller Park.
But Upton, who suffered a bruised right thumb in the seventh inning Monday, isn't a candidate for the disabled list, said interim manager Pat Murphy.
In fact, Murphy said Upton might be available to pinch-hit if the situation warranted it.
"I think he's close," Murphy said of the All-Star outfielder.
Upton made a nice running snag toward the left-field line of a ball hit by Scooter Gennett.
