A broken arm sidelined Ivan Castillo last spring. It did not, however, keep him from making himself at home in the Padres organization after a month delay.
The 24-year-old switch-hitter is among the players returning on minor league deals after emerging from the 2019 campaign with a Texas League batting championship. Castillo hit a career-best .313 in 104 games with Double-A Amarillo after signing with the Padres last offseason and is regularly working at shortstop in the Dominican winter league after re-signing with the Padres this offseason.
Castillo is hitting .242/.293/.286 with one homer, nine RBIs and a steal in 22 games with Escogido, largely because he’s cooled off over his last four games (2-for-15).
