Hunter Renfroe powers Padres with newly cultured patience

LOS ANGELES —

Hunter Renfroe hasn’t seen a lot of pitches lately like the slider Yimi Garcia threw him in Friday night’s eighth inning.

“He finally got a mistake in the middle of the plate to hit,” Andy Green said.

Renfroe hit it — 398 feet to left field for his 26th home run of the season and the decisive run in the Padres’ 3-2 victory over the Dodgers.

The homer came on the last of the 16 pitches Renfroe saw Friday and just the second of the night he saw anywhere near the heart of the strike zone.
