PEORIA, Ariz. — The other day, Philip Humber was listening to Padres first base coach Tarrik Brock talk about legacies, about wanting the dash on his future tombstone to mean something, about how, Humber relayed, “what he accomplished in life is going to be the fingerprints he left in this game.”
For Humber, it would be all too easy to think back to April 21, 2012, when the then-White Sox right-hander pitched the 21st perfect game in major league history.
Humber, 29 at the time, had made just 29 big-league starts before that day at Safeco Field.
