San Diego — Off-duty and retired deputies and officers aren’t allowed to bring concealed guns into Petco Park anymore.
The decision went into effect Opening Day and came shortly after the Padres announced they would be revamping security measures at the park, including installing metal detectors, which Major League Baseball ordered for all teams by 2015.
“The mandate from Major League Baseball was the catalyst to examine our policies, including the (conceal carry) policy,” said Erik Greupner, the Padres' vice president of business administration and general counsel. “For security reasons and other reasons we needed to make a decision on the policy and we felt it was best to implement one that was the same as the four other ballparks (in the state.
