Gore, Patiño headline Padres’ spring non-roster invitees

One of the Padres’ top pitching prospects launched his MLB career with an impressive first big league camp last year.

Two more will get that chance this spring.

Top pitching prospects MacKenzie Gore and Luis Patiño are among 27 non-roster players receiving invitations to the Padres’ big league camp, although neither have as much Double-A experience as Chris Paddack did when he stormed through Cactus League play to win a spot on last year’s opening day roster.

Paddack turned 23 after finishing the 2018 season with 37 1/3 innings in the Texas League.

The 20-year-old Gore and 20-year-old Patiño had less than that combined in Double-A Amarillo’s rotation last year before innings limits ended their season just shy the Sod Poodles’ playoff run.
