Padres second-year pro Ruddy Giron accomplished a feat that many professional ballplayers never sniff, and he did it in his first Class A game with little to no sleep.
The 18-year-old Dominican shortstop went 6-for-6 with a home run during his 2015 debut for Fort Wayne on Monday. And according to Fort Wayne manager Francisco Morales, Giron had to overcome a 3 a.m. wake-up call to do it.
"I asked [Minor League director Sam Geaney], 'What do you think? Can we throw him out there today?'" Morales told MiLB.com. "I know the kid hasn't slept all day.
