Time will tell if the Padres add a starting pitcher ahead of Wednesday’s 1 p.m. trade deadline. One potential reinforcement, however, is packing his bags for a Tuesday rehab start in San Jose, a small but not insignificant step in Garrett Richards’ quest to pitch in the big league rotation before the end of the season.
“If you can take anything beautiful away from an injury,” Richards said, “it’s the comeback. It’s the chance to prove yourself to everyone again and show off all your hard work.
“It’s a rewarding thing.”
