In spite of Alex Dickerson’s best efforts in Tuesday’s 8-7 loss to the Cubs, the Padres slipped seven games below .500, one shy of the season low. The Padres were eight games under .500 at the end of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Giants on April 27.
Alexei Ramirez was lost to hamstring cramping Tuesday night and is out of the lineup for Game 1. In his place, Adam Rosales makes his first start at shortstop. He last started a game there in 2014 for the Rangers, but has appeared in two games there for the Padres after seeing extensive action there this spring.
