DENVER — The Rockies designed Christian Friedrich for assignment in February. When the pitching starved Angels pulled a claim back, the organization that drafted him 25th overall in 2008 decided to cut their losses on Friedrich and his 5.81 earned-run average.
Maybe it is indeed the Rockies’ loss … even if they stuck Friedrich with the loss on Sunday.
Friedrich allowed only an unearned run in his return to Coors Field, a 2-1 loss that dropped the Padres to 1-20 in series finales.
The befuddler this time was a 26-year-old left-hander making his major league debut for Colorado.
