Five candidates for Padres' managerial job

As expected, General Manager A.J. Preller announced after Sunday’s loss that interim manager Pat Murphy will not be considered for the full-time gig in 2016. Inheriting a 32-34 team in mid-June, Murphy went 42-54 as the Padres finished the year a season-high 14 games under .500. Though Preller won’t be available to discuss what he’s looking for in a full-time hire until 10:30 a.m. Monday, the candidate list is already growing.

A well-respected coach in the game, Alomar started his career with the Padres before he was shipped to Cleveland with Carlos Baerga and Chris James for Joe Carter.
