WASHINGTON -- Robbie Erlin has been a valuable member of the Padres' bullpen this season, but when the team has turned to him for starting help, the results have not been ideal.
In his second spot start of the season, Erlin was shelled once again, giving up six runs over four innings as the Padres fell, 10-2, to the Nationals on Monday, ending their season-high-tying three-game winning streak.
Pressed into the rotation due to Joey Lucchesi's hip injury, the Padres were hoping Erlin could apply his stellar bullpen numbers and lessons learned from his first start, on April 16, to this assignment.
