PEORIA, Ariz. — Monday, one week from opening day, the Padres reduced their major league camp to 38 players, reassigning catcher Rocky Gale and right-handers Jose Dominguez, Philip Humber and Daniel McCutchen.
"More roster paring down is going to happen in the next few days," Padres manager Andy Green said. "We're trying to get down to our 25(-man roster). We're going to at least get closer to that number pretty quickly."
Of the three cuts Monday, Dominguez, a hard-throwing reliever who made eight Cactus League appearances, seems the most likely to be in San Diego at some point during the season.
