The Padres basically couldn’t hit today. The offense picked up just five hits all night, and four of those were singles. And they only drew one walk while fanning eight times. But there is a bright spot: Joey Lucchesi now has a batting average above zero. That’s right, the rookie picked up his first big league knock today, a lone bright spot in an otherwise frustrating game.
The Friars did manage to strike first today, thanks to Joey Fuego. He hit his single with one out in the third, and then sped all the way past second and into third base when Travis Jankowski singled to right.
