The Padres’ approach before and during Thursday’s series finale against the Cubs was inarguably sound.
The execution wasn’t quite there, however, as the Cubs salvaged a split of the four-game series at Petco Park with a 4-1 victory.
With the Cubs starting right-hander Yu Darvish, Padres manager Andy Green filled the eight position spots in his lineup with five left-handed batters. It is something he has been able to do just twice this season, both times in the past seven games.
Padres hitters proceeded to be as patient at the plate as in any game this season.
