SAN DIEGO -- Jarred Cosart underwent successful surgery to clean up his right elbow, and the Padres remain hopeful that the 26-year-old right-hander will be fully recovered by the start of Spring Training.
Cosart had a bone spur in his pitching elbow, which forced him to miss the final two starts of the season. His surgery -- performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Wednesday -- removed the loose bodies in the area.
His recovery is expected to last six weeks, which should give Cosart time to return to full strength before Spring Training.
The Padres acquired Cosart in July in the trade that sent Andrew Cashner to Miami.
