Someone on Wednesday night will hand Ted Leitner a baseball.
In honor of his 40th season on the job, the Padres radio broadcaster is to throw a ceremonial pitch before the team faces the Dodgers.
Leitner, who’s to take aim at 6:58 p.m., somewhere near the mound at Petco Park, said he’s grateful to have called Padres games since 1980.
“It’s not so much that I’m proud of it; I’m just glad, lucky, happy,” he said in the broadcast booth at Petco Park before Tuesday night’s game. “And the truth is, I enjoy it now more than ever, and I don’t know why.
