Column: Kinsler said he regrets profanities, wasn’t targeting fans

Ian Kinsler messed up. He said so Friday, sort of.

Shouting cuss words on the ballfield the previous night, with the cameras on him and field-level fans not far away, the Padres infielder said, was a mistake he regrets.

Kinsler mentioned his two children, ages 7 and 10.

“After thinking about it for a day, it’s not how I want to act on the field,” he said. “You get a call from your 10-year-old daughter asking you what happened and why you did that. You’ve got to explain it, it’s difficult.”

Kinsler, perhaps taking us for dunces, said he merely was just trying to “fire up” his Padres teammates when he salted the air.
