The cases for and against the Padres retaining manager Andy Green as they charge (OK, limp) into 2020 feels like an assignment for a mock-trial team. Whichever side you’re tasked to defend, there’s plenty of debate ammunition.
There’s much to chew on while considering whether Green should return for a fifth season.
Case for: Who wins with this team, anyway? The front office handed Green the youngest rotation in baseball and by default, the least experienced. Then they put pitch limits on his best arm in Chris Paddack, plus Matt Strahm and others.
As Union-Tribune reporter Kevin Acee rightly pointed out, it’s been a six-man rotation made up of about four-and-a-half people.
