After six years (seven seasons) in the San Diego Padres organization, Cody Decker is parting ways with the team that drafted him in 2009. The infielder (and occasional outfielder, catcher, and pitcher) will be joining the defending World Series champions, the Kansas City Royals, on a minor league deal. While the Royals haven't made any official announcements yet, Jeff Passan broke news of the deal on Twitter last night, to Decker's dismay.
Despite very limited time playing in the Major Leagues (he was called up for the first time this past September and played in eight games, mostly as a pinch-hitter, for the Padres), Decker has become something of a "Twitter celebrity" over the past few years, gaining attention in large part due to his YouTube films and pranks he often pulled on his Minor League teammates, as well as his all-around likeable personality, sense of humor, and willingness to interact and engage with fans on social media.
