ATLANTA —
The Padres are staying true to their pledge to keep Matt Strahm and Chris Paddack healthy above all other considerations.
They will call up right-hander Cal Quantrill to make his major league debut Wednesday against the Braves.
Quantrill, whose father, Paul, pitched in the majors from 1992-2005, will be the fourth starting pitcher to debut for the Padres this season. That’s twice as many as any other team.
He will also be the third rookie in a row to start for them, following Nick Margevicius on Monday and Paddack on Tuesday.
Quantrill is the Padres’ sixth-ranked pitching prospect, according to Baseball America.
