Bullpen day turns sour as Padres fall to Dodgers in 10th

One inning was good for Trey Wingenter. The second was not, and neither were the events that unfolded in an unfortunate 10th inning Wednesday night.

A parade of relievers settled in after Wingenter’s shaky second inning but Luis Urias’ throwing error opened the door for more Kirby Yates struggles in non-save situations in a 6-4 loss to the Dodgers that again dropped the Padres a season-worst 10 games under .500.

Eric Hosmer’s eighth-inning homer, at the time, was only the Padres’ second hit after their two-run first inning.

Francisco Mejia doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the ninth against Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to tie the game only to see just it unravel after Yates walked Enrique Hernandez with two outs in the 10th.
