Grounded amateur scouts across the country have the answer to one lingering question: Baseball will indeed hold its annual draft this summer.
The agreement that Major League Baseball and its players union reached Thursday, however, raised plenty of others, most notably how many rounds each of the next two drafts will last.
Major League Baseball, according to multiple reports, can limit this year’s draft to as little as five rounds and next year’s to as few as 20. The belief is that the length of the 2020 season — when and if it is able to resume — and the revenue generated would ultimately inform the length of this year’s draft, which will be held on a to-be-determined date between June 10 and July 20.
