Minor League Baseball on Thursday named Fort Wayne catcher Austin Allen the Midwest League Player of the Month for April.
The Padres' fourth-round pick last year out of the Florida Institute of Technology, the 22-year-old Allen hit .460, slugged .603 and walked (10) more times than he struck out (eight) in his first month in the league. The campaign started with an 11-game hitting streak that included eight multi-hit games.
Allen has cooled of late, hitting .250 over his last 10 games, but still carries a .451/.540/.577 batting line into today’s game at Kane County. He has one homer, six doubles, 15 RBIs, 13 walks and nine strikeouts through his first 21 game in the low Single-A circuit.
