Artist steps to plate with colorful All-Star work

There is a certain segment of the sports collectibles population that focuses on game-used memorabilia.

Artist Charles Fazzino learned this first hand when the 2004 All-Star Game was played at Houston's Minute Maid Park.

Fazzino had created a special piece for the All-Star Game, using a home plate as the canvas for a work depicting the host ballpark. It was done in the 3-D Pop Art style for which Fazzino has become famous.

In what has become an annual tradition, the piece was placed on home plate right before the ceremonial first pitch was thrown. Fazzino was to sign it afterward and it would be purchased as a one-of-a-kind artwork.
