LOS ANGELES —
The Padres, based on their 50-58 record, are on pace to win nine more games than they did a year ago.
However, at their current pace of 5-13 since the All-Star break, they are on pace to finish one game worse than their 66-96 mark in 2018.
When General Manager A.J. Preller said several times on Wednesday that the Padres’ expectation over the season’s final two months is to play “meaningful games” and be in the wild card race, he made winning the main storyline.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave when we practice to make the fans believe.
