Andy Green appreciated the professionalism in Alexei Ramirez vowing to use the entire field through the first two months of the season. The Padres’ rookie skipper also appreciates precisely where his 34-year-old shortstop typically does the most damage – the pull side.
The reminder that he had hitting coach Alan Zinter deliver recently has a lot to do with Ramirez’s uptick in production.
“Sometimes that desire to do absolutely everything takes a guy off his strength,” Green said. “I thought after a month and a half of fighting and doing fine but not as well as he has historically … (that) he had always gotten the head out.
