An old friend is rejoining the Padres’ organizational depth chart.
Abraham Almonte is returning to the organization on a minor league deal, according to transactions collected at Baseball America. The team is also bringing in right-hander Chase Johnson and catcher Charlie Valerio.
Originally acquired from the Mariners for Chris Denorfia in July 2014, the 30-year-old Almonte played parts of two seasons for San Diego before he was traded to the Indians the following July for left-hander Marc Rzepczynski.
The switch-hitting Almonte hit .243/.293/.336 with two homers and 11 RBIs over 63 games with the Padres and is a .
