SAN DIEGO -- When the Padres completely overhauled their outfield in the winter, adding Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Wil Myers, there were many who wondered what this would mean for the longest-tenured Padre, center fielder Will Venable.
In April, it meant a lot of time on the bench.
"The first five, six weeks of the season, he sort of had to take a step back. But he handled it so professionally. ... That's not easy," said Padres manager Bud Black. "His starts were few and far between. We were running those guys [Kemp, Upton and Myers] out there a lot.
