79th All-Star Game: AL plays late into the night for win

American League 4, National League 3 (15)

July 15/16, 2008, Yankee Stadium, New York

Starting pitchers: Ben Sheets, Brewers; Cliff Lee, Indians.

Managers: Clint Hurdle, Rockies; Terry Francona, Red Sox.

MVP: J.D. Drew, Red Sox.

Highlight: The Rangers’ Michael Young hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly off the Astros’ Brad Lidge with one out in the 15th inning to score the Twins’ Justin Morneau, ending the 4-hour, 50-minute marathon the day after it started. It was a memorable sendoff in the final season of Yankee Stadium, which also hosted All-Star Games in 1939, 1960 and 1977.
