American League 5, National League 3
July 11, 1989, Angel Stadium, Anaheim
Starting pitchers: Rick Reuschel, Giants; Dave Stewart, A’s.
Managers: Tommy Lasorda, Dodgers; Tony La Russa, A’s.
MVP: Bo Jackson, Royals.
Highlight: The NL jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by the Giants’ Kevin Mitchell and the Mets’ Howard Johnson. That was quickly forgotten in the bottom of the first. Jackson, who had put on a hitting display during batting practice a day earlier, led off for the AL and walloped the second pitch from Reuschel for a 448-foot homer to center field.
