National League 4, American League 3 (10)
July 25, 1972, Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, Atlanta
Starting pitchers: Jim Palmer, Orioles; Bob Gibson, Cardinals.
Managers: Earl Weaver, Orioles; Danny Murtaugh, Pirates.
MVP: Joe Morgan, Reds.
Highlight: The NL improved to 7-0 in extra-inning All-Star Games. It’s a good thing it went 10 innings. The Padres’ Nate Colbert entered in the 10th as a pinch hitter. He walked, was sacrificed to second and scored the winning run on Morgan’s single. Colbert, by the way, brought the wrong uniform, wearing his road “San Diego” jersey instead his “Padres” jersey.
