National League 9, American League 3
July 23, 1969, Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, Washington, D.C.
Starting pitchers: Steve Carlton, Cardinals; Mel Stottlemyre, Yankees.
Managers: Red Schoendienst, Cardinals; Mayo Smith, Tigers.
MVP: Willie McCovey, Giants.
Highlight: Three days after Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, Giants first baseman Willie McCovey hit a moon shot. He homered off the A’s Blue Moon Odom in the NL’s five-run third inning. McCovey added another homer in the fourth inning off the Tigers’ Denny McLain. It was a rare Wednesday All-Star Game because of a torrential rain storm that forced postponement from the previous day.
